FG REITERATES COMMITMENT TO FIVE PERCENT EMPLOYMENT ALLOCATION TO PEOPLE LIVING WITH DISABILITIES
The Federal Civil Service Commission (FCSC) has reiterated its commitment towards implementing the five percent allocated for People Living With Disabilities (PLWD) for employment opportunities in the civil service, subject to the lifting of the embargo on recruitment.
The Hon. Chairman of The Federal Civil Service Commission, Dr. Tukur Bello Ingawa,OON mni; disclosed this today during a courtesy visit by a delegation of the Nigeria National Association of The Deaf to his Office.
Furthermore, Dr. Ingawa explained that The Commission is in sync with the deliberate policy of the present administration of President Muhammdu Buhari to recognize and harness the potentials of the People Living With Disabilities towards actualizing our national aspirations and objectives for self-improvement, productivity and overall socio-economic development of the country.
Buttressing his assertion, the Hon. Chairman said: ‘’we came in with absolute sense of awareness of the extant law on five percent allocation for the PLWD on employment opportunities, the point is; we are very passionate to implement the circular to all MDAs that preserves the law on five percent’’.
While stressing the importance of the extant circular to all Ministries, Departments and Agencies of government on this pressing issue, Dr. Ingawa affirmed that the five percent allocation for employment opportunities apply to all categories of PLWD and, not the deaf alone.
To this end, the Hon. Chairman assured the visiting members of the Nigeria Association for the Deaf that the Commission is very approachable and receptive to their yearnings and proposal: which according to him, would be handled appropriately within the confines of the law by the Commission.
In his remarks, the leader of delegation, Engr. Timothy Adejumo said that the Nigeria Association for the Deaf considered the Federal Civil Service Commission as being central and important for the actualization of their goals and objectives of their current project, tagged, ‘’E3’’: a United States Agency for International Development (USAID) project. The acronym ‘’E3’’ stands for- education, employment and empowerment.
Furthermore, Engr. Adejumo posited that the purpose of their visit was to seek fruitful collaboration with the Commission, particularly on the implementation of five percent allocation of employment opportunities in the civil service for the benefit of its members.
It is pertinent to state that the Hon. Commissioners representing Bayelsa, Delta and Rivers states: Jigawa and Kano- in the Federal Civil Service Commission; Mr Poroma Joe Philip and Alhaji Bello Mahmoud Babura graced the occasion, with the Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Monilola Udoh and Management team of the Commission in attendance.
